Hello all...
Gulp! Am I crazy for doing this? I've asked myself this question dozens of times over the past couple of weeks, but still - here we go... I will begin this weight loss blog on Monday, January 5th, 2009.
As the Chairman of the Wellness Committee at the Alaska Sealife Center, I (we) thought it might be a good idea to try to inspire others to get more fit. I am a firm believer that most people will not "buy-in" to any issue unless it becomes personal to them. That said - I am going to try to make this blog personal. My goal is to share not only my daily totals and progress (and occasional setbacks) but also my thoughts and feelings about the things that inspire or discourage me. As someone who has struggled with weight issues most of my adult life, I can attest to the fact that there is alot more to being over weight than just eating too much or exercising too little. There is a gammet of emotions tied to food and eating - some positive, some negative. Without getting TOO personal, I'm going to attempt to discuss some of those issues as I progress through this "journey". Some of the issues I will try to address will be: progress and setbacks, inspirations and discouragements, how to get others involved and inspired, strategies for success, health issues, vanity issues, and things that have previously hindered my progress. My sincere hope is that through my struggles while working through these issues I might inspire others to be more healthy, as well.
My goal is to make daily updates to this blog. That may not always be possible - but I will give it my best effort.
So... I welcome you to join me on this mission. And remember - A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. One foot in front of the other... it's time.
Alice =-)

AStone, well, we both have a tough challenge ahead of us this wonderful new year - different cause - same end goal: to be healthy. Maybe we could help each other with strengths! Have you looked into the "Eat Right for your blood type" books? I looked into it about 15 years ago and was living in a household of 4 people - all with different blood types. Needless to say, it was a challenge to cook almost 3.5 meals every night and we gave up. Now, I don't have a choice, so I am just going to do the best I can.
ReplyDeleteThese nutritional recommendations are not a weight loss diet. However, if you stick to them well, you cut out any health issues and invariably end up at a healthy weight because not being of an ideal weight is really just a product of imbalances and compensations in the body.
I have to say you are braver than me on sharing this with the world. My own journey has begun today and I will have to let ya'll know how I do, although I do not think my reactions would be "G" rated enough to post! :-)
ReplyDeleteHang tough A, we have a long way to go!
